A Mix Media Iron Removal Filter consists of a pressure vessel filled with different layers of filtration materials such as:

Gravel (support layer)

Silica sand (removes suspended solids)

Manganese dioxide / manganese greensand (removes iron & manganese)

Anthracite (improves clarity and reduces turbidity)

This multi-layer arrangement allows efficient removal of iron (Fe²⁺), which is commonly found in groundwater and causes reddish stains, bad taste, and odor.

🔹 Working Principle

Oxidation Process: Dissolved iron is first oxidized (by aeration or chemical dosing like chlorine) into insoluble particles.

Filtration Stage: Water passes through multiple layers of media where iron particles and impurities are trapped.

Backwashing: Periodic reverse flow cleans the media and restores filtration efficiency.
